I have fitted a few cartridges in my time and used AudioEngines protractor, but if I’m dropping $300ish on a new cartridge, I’ll definitely buy some alignment tools to make sure it’s as accurate as possible. I was thinking the Goldring E3 might be the way to go, but from what I’ve read the VM95ML sounds just as good if not better than the 2M Bronze and costs almost half the price here ($300AUD v $589AUD for the Bronze), there’s replacement styluses a plenty down under and it’s compatible with the Carbon Evo’s 6g Tonearm. Might look at adding this to the upgrade list.Īfter doing a wee bit more research, I think I’m going to lock in the Audio Technica AT-VM95ML for my next cartridge upgrade. I’ve still got the standard 2M Red on my Debut Carbon, but I do do have the Pro-ject Clamp It, the Acrylic Platter and the Q-Up which has been a great addition from someone coming from a auto-off TT originally. For 225 more, The Rega just eats the Pro-Ject for lunch. Price: Rega Planar 2: 675/Pro-Ject Debut:450. Member 51 Share Posted September 7, 2012. There are, no doubt, practical reasons why Rega has done this. Removing the Fono’s A2D bit and bobs and the USB port in the process. In this case, it has fitted a stripped down version of the excellent Fono Mini A2D phono amplifier to the deck. The Pro-Ject would also suffer from hum, that would come and go. It is quieter, more focused, more vivid, and tonally much better. Will the sub-platter improve the sound quality at all? Asking for a friend (who is me) haha. The Planar 2 wins hands down in every category. I’ve been considering getting a new cartridge and with the S2 I’ll be able to choose between MM & MC v with the Phono box E, I could only got for MM cartridges. The S2 on the other hand sounds fantastic with the 2M Red I’ve got and unless I’m going to go super duper high end with my turntable, I won’t be upgrading it for a while. I had the Pro-ject Phono Box E previously and I wouldn’t recommend it. Same goes for the Nagaoka.Īs for the Phono, I got a Pro-ject Phono box S2 on sale down from $237AUD -> $189AUD. Leaning towards the Nagaoka at the moment, but It’s harder to find over here but I’ve found a reputable seller. I’m still weighing up on springing for a 2M Blue stylus (usually around $250AUD) a Nagaoka MP-110 cartridge (for $239AUD, which I can upgrade later) or a Goldring E3 ($200AUD which I can’t upgrade further at all).
